I was laid off back in October. In the 7 months between then and now I have sent out 50s of resumes, been contacted by dozens of future employers and been told no by just as many. In some cases I didn't even get a response. Now, sure, there are times when I didn't work as hard as I could because it is discouraging to be told no that many times, but I never quit.
Then, I get the opportunity to just walk into and interview, so I decide to go. I miss the first round because of chores and grocery shopping and losing track of time, so I go to the second. Turns out, the position I went in for has been filled but I'm given the opportunity to be interviewed for a second position that is available. I take it, because even if I don't get the position or want the job, this is interview experience (which I am in desperate need of). The interview goes great, I'm offered and accept the position and I start work the next day.
That was three weeks ago.
Two days ago (Wednesday) I received a call that said that the call center was down and that our database was still messed up -- it had malfunction on Monday and they'd been working to repair it all day on Tuesday. Because of the malfunction, I was off for the day. Yay and awesome for having the day off.
Then, that same night, I get another phone call that the call center is still closed because they systems are still down. Alright, no worries. Two days off, that sucks, but whatever.
At this point, I'm not thinking that there's a problem because I'd been sent home early the week before because of a issue with the phone system. They are still working out the kinks. It happens.
Well, I got a phone call this morning -- after missing and returning a message to my third supervisor last night -- that said that the call center was closed until further notice, that all of the shows that were scheduled were cancelled, and that I would hear from him on Monday or Tuesday about what was going on, more specifically if we all still had jobs.
Now, while I have every faith that Mark (the owner) will do everything in his power to fix the problem -- he told us the second week that we worked there who he was, what the company did, and that the jobs that we had were good jobs and that they weren't going anywhere -- do you know how much it sucks that the first job that I get offered in 7 months is a telemarketing job that makes me take a $4.10 pay decrease from my previous job, that I screw up my unemployment to take it, only work it for 3 weeks and then might not have it anymore?
I'm a little stressed out, a little upset... Back to the drawing board, I suppose.
